Who is it aimed at?

SENCOs and others whose role involves the management of staff undertaking moving and handling activities with pupils   

What are the key objectives?

·       Raise awareness of the legal requirements to undertake moving and handling activities safely in schools

·       Understand the causes of the typical injuries and health problems associated with manual handling

·       Understand the link between poor manual handling techniques and an increased risk of injury and ill health for staff and children

·       Provide an understanding of how to effectively manage manual handling activities in schools

·       Understand and practice the key principles of moving and handling risk assessments

·       SENCOs and others will know where to go to find advice and guidance from competent persons

 

How will it make a difference?

Provide SENCOs with the knowledge to give effective support, advice and guidance to head teachers, staff, pupils and others through the effective management of manual handling activities in their areas of responsibility. This will help reduce injuries and ill health associated with poor/unsafe manual handling techniques.
