Who is it aimed at?

Anyone nominated as a First Aider in schools that have pupils under four years of age.

  

This qualification will require attendance on a refresher course every three years to maintain accreditation.

What are the objectives?

To give candidates the knowledge, understanding, confidence and skills so they can carry out Emergency First Aid at Work promptly and efficiently.

It provides staff with the knowledge and skills to:

•    Recognise childhood illness; meningitis, croup, measles etc.

•    Manage an unconscious casualty: children and babies

•    Resuscitate children and babies

•    Plan for first aid emergencies involving children and babies

•    Deal with emergencies involving children and babies

•    Deal with choking in children and babies

•    Deal with fractures in children and babies

•    Deal with head, neck and spinal injuries in children and babies

How will it make a difference?

Support schools to effectively and safely manage casualties including injuries and illness involving pupils and others. 

This will also assist the school to comply with its requirements under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and the Welsh Government
