Our School

Our school is located in the village of Ponthenri and the pupils aged between 3 1/2 and 11 years come from the village and surrounding areas. On average, there are 55 pupils on the roll in any given year. Pupils are accepted in to the school as follows:
Admission Arrangements| 4th Birthday | Start |

| September - December | September |
| January - March | January |
| April - August | April |
Our school is a bilingual school termed 'Category A' in accordance with the Local Education Authority's Language Policy. Welsh is the main medium of life and work in the infant classes in order to establish a sound foundation for pupils in the language. Welsh is the main medium of life and work in the junior classes and English is introduced as pupils transfer from the infant to the junior classes so that pupils have the opportunity to develop an equal competence in both languages by the time they leave primary school and transfer to either Gwendraeth or Maes Yr Yrfa Comprehensive Schools.
The school's staff work together as an effective and efficient team to ensure that each individual is given the best education possible.
As a school we are fully inclusive and have all the facilities necessary to accommodate wheelchair users with a disabled toilet on site.
The school firmly believes that by being happy and secure, we will learn together.

- create a positive attitude towards good behaviour;
- create ample opportunities for self-discipline;
- impart to the child a wide range of knowledge, skills and understanding;
- develop the skills and experience of the child within the framework of the National Curriculum;

The school operates an open-door policy and the headteacher, Mrs Pat Rowlands, her staff and the Governing Body are always available to discuss any issues regarding school procedures and policies. We welcome any comments or observations regarding your child's education.
