Estyn Inspection November 2006
According to our last Estyn Inspection, our school provides a happy and caring environment and has continued to improve since the last inspection with a substantial rise in standards in Key Stage 2. It is managed by a supportive governing body. The headteacher and staff work conscientiously to ensure the school's clear values. The inspection team agreed with the school's self-evaluation document. Pupils' behaviour, the good working relationship between teachers and pupils, together with the presentation of their written work, are obvious strengths. The headteacher and the part-time school support officer, ensure that the school works effectively from day to day. The school provides good value for money. For further information regarding the inspection please visit the Estyn website at www.estyn.gov.ukPonthenri School is not responsible for the content of external internet sites.
Parental Information
We have made good progress on implementing the plan set out by the inspectors. We must take into account the small complement of staff as well as the headteacher having teaching commitments and, therefore, allocate appropriate responsiblities within realistic timescales. We will record carefully the succesful implementation of action points as they occur and focus clearly on what remains to be done.

Should you require this then please request a hard copy of the report from the school in Welsh, English or both languages.
School Council
As a school we pride ourselves on our active school council who meet on a regular basis. The school council was represented at the launch of the Welsh School Councils' website at the invitation of Jane Davidson, then Minister for Education, in recognition of their efforts. The school staff create an atmosphere where young people are listened to, respected and taken seriously. Children are consulted on various issues; leading them to give their views on matters which affect them, e.g. Eco-Schools, Healthy Schools, Fairtrade and other local community issues.
Competitions
Ponthenri School enters numerous competitions throughout the academic year and achieves success in a great many of them. Please find below a poem written by two former pupils of the school for a competition organised by Show Racism the Red Card for which they were named runners-up:
The world is full of racism,
The world is full of discrimination,
If we put together some determination and co-operation,
We could save the nation.
We need to save the world from hate,
We need to save the world from fate,
But today on this date,
Even at this tragic rate,
We have learnt it's never too late.
In yourself you must find,
Inner happiness to be kind,
For even when the anti-racism sheet was signed,
Some people still had hatred in their mind,
Let's be happy and leave the past behind.
