F1 in Schools Challenge News Update

Primary Bloodhound

Another Racing Season has been completed with Carmarthenshire schools performing exceptionally well once again in the National Arena.  Richmond Park School, Carmarthen, came away from the national finals with an overall fourth position.  Standards were very high and congratulations are extended to staff and pupils at the school for achieving such enormous success.

Other schools in the authority have also scooped awards on a regional level at the Waterfront Museum in Swansea - Ysgol y Fro won the award for Best Team Image and Team Working; Penygroes won the category for Best Display.

Locally, eight schools culminated a “Networking Project” in Amman Valley Sports Hall on July 13thYsgol y Bedol won the Fastest Car award with a time of 1.188 sec, closely followed by Bro Banw’s “Banw Boars” fastest time of 1.202 sec.  Almost 200 children enjoyed a morning of celebration of their hard work developing both car designs using industrial-quality software and team image through graphic software.  Merchandise was produced by all schools using CAD/CAM facility and support from the secondary school (Amman Valley Comprehensive) DT Department and the authority’s resources.  Many head teachers recognised the value of the challenge– promoting real, dynamic contexts for numeracy and literacy and engaging boys in learning with this exciting real-world entrepreneurial project.

If you would like your school to take part in the F1 in Schools Challenge in the new academic year (2012 Racing Season), either as part of a networking / PLC project, or on an individual basis, please do not hesitate to contact me via e-mail.
